Buffalo Bill Wild West Indian Poster

    Starting at: $34.00

The Wild West Show had its own separate Indian section. Cody insisted that only athentic tribe members participate and that the material in which they appeared be historically accurate and respectful. This fine portrait of Chief 'Walks-under-the-Ground' was 'drawn from life' by Goodman (no relatoin to the A.J. Gooman Cody's oldest sister Julia married), a Cleveland-born paintercommissioned for many of the show's posters. (His portrait of Cody, made for his fan King Edward VII of England, now hangs in Buckingham Palace.) Chaix, France's leading theatrical lithographer at the turn of the century, was one of the Wild West Show's two main French printers. The presence here of the German term for chief indicates that the poster--or at least this version of it--would be used outside France. Learn More
